Day 1 - Touring Line 204
For the first day of my internship I was given an introductory tour of the Line 204 by the one and only Mrs. Butler. One of the most sweetest people I have ever met. The Line 204 warehouse was massive and full of so many different objects. There were so many different kinds of chairs. I didn't even know that many existed. She gave me a general tour of the warehouse and we made stops to meet all the heads of the different departments.
I was introduced to so many people who were all so welcoming and kind. One of the coolest things I saw was the production section. This is where all the sound stages are and where the magic happens. There was actually a commercial being shot of the makeup brand NYX. So amazing! I was totally having a touristy LA moment. Everyone else was like "oh it's just some company, this is just everyday," I obviously nodded along and continued to look professional while also internally freaking out. I mean I live in Houston, nobody famous lives in Houston, everyone famous lives in LA. I also was given a short blurb about how the events and decor department works. One thing I learned is that connections are everything in this business. It's all about reputation and relations. Client loyalty is a large aspect of this business because that is kind of the only way to advertise event rentals and studio space to the kind of audience and clientele you want.
After the tour I went to go help out with accounting. I was working with a woman named Lucy. Very sweet and so understanding of my complete lack of knowledge for all things accounting. One thing I learned is that accounting is very hard to intern in unless you are an accountant. Lucy did her best to simplify everything she was explaining, but even then it was still basically gibberish. Luckily my assignment for the day was an easy straightforward assignment that was more busywork than anything. For each new year they need to make a binder with all the fixed assets and loans that they have. So since it has recently become a new year, they needed to create the new binder. My job was to use my awesome technology skills to type up labels for the separators in the binder. Once I finished typing them up, I stuck them on the separators. I know I'm so skilled.
The next thing she assigned to me was moving transactions made this year to this years binder. So I had to go through a large binder filled with very confusing forms and find ones that were dated in 2022 and switch them over to the new binder under the correct account. Although this didn't require any knowledge of accounting, I still was able to learn a bit about how transactions and loans are done and how much money is generally being moved around as well as all the different kinds of forms. Granted, I did not understand most if not all of what I was seeing on the forms but I still got some exposure.
After finishing that I was done! First day of my internship was a success and I had a great time. I can't wait to learn so much more.
