Day 8: The Finale

Today was my last day in LA so why not go out with a bang? Sira was able to get us into the induction ceremony into the Walk of Fame for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Granted I don’t actually listen to them but I know they’re a big deal and also it’s just super exciting to be able to see that. When we got there it was pretty crowded. There were gates to hold back people. While there was an area with the setup and podium around where their star will be. We were able to get in because Line204 was providing some of the production equipment for this event. We checked in at the red stanchions and a fancy FBI looking man let us in. The band wasn’t here yet, but people were scrambling around to make sure everything went smoothly. We got in and I was introduced to some of Siras friends then we went to go stand in the corner. So we were out of the way.

We were waiting for about an hour. Guests were trickling in. The attire was so different. Some of the guests were super fancy or wore an outgoing outfit and some were super casual. I guess anything goes in LA. While we were waiting the USC band came and were entertaining the crowd. It was slowly getting bigger as 11:30 grew closer. The whole sidewalk across the street was packed. The band was on a double decker bus across the street. They were very good.

Soon enough 11:30 came around. I didn’t know what they looked like but it was pretty easy to tell who they were as soon as they appeared because the street filled with so many screaming fans. The Red Hot Chili Peppers came out waving to people before taking their seat in front of the podium. Unfortunately the stage was facing the cameras which means we only really saw a lot of backs. The woman in charge of organizing all of this gave a short speech introducing the band and listing all their achievements. Before the band talked, there were three guest speakers that were famous and good friends of the band. They each gave a small speech about how proud they were of the band. Finally it was the Peppers turn to talk. By then the street was practically filled with adoring fans. As soon as the first band member started talking they all rushed towards the barricade. Which was a bit frightening since I had moved near the barricade to get some good pictures. I decided to retreat back to our corner with Sira. Each band member gave a small do each thanking their fans and telling some stories about the importance of this walk to them. It was very heartwarming and even though I am not a fan of this band I was still so starstruck.

Soon enough they received the star and just like that the ceremony was over. We left soon after so that we would avoid the crowd and not get trampled. Although it was short it was amazing! Even though it was short it was so amazing to experience that and be so near celebrities! A cannot express how thankful I am to the Butlers for giving me this experience! I’d say this was a great last hoorah in LA. I will really miss this and I learned so much while I was here!
